Former Danish star Thomas Kahlenberg has been quarantined after being tested positive for coronavirus.

The 36-year-old, who hung up his boots in 2017, contracted the virus during a trip to Amsterdam before attending Sunday’s Danish Superliga match at Bronby against Lyngby.

Thirteen Danish club staff have also been quarantined, while health officials are looking for anyone else who has come into contact with Kahlenberg.

Three Lyngby players were quarantined as a precaution because it became apparent that Kahlenberg was mixing with fans and representatives of the two teams.

The former attacking midfielder has played 47 games with Denmark, including three at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

The sport has already been hit hard by the epidemic, which started in China, with various competitions postponed until the situation is under control.

Italy was the hardest hit in Europe and several Serie A matches were postponed, while the Six Nations match between Ireland and Italy was also postponed.

At 9 a.m. on Thursday, the Department of Health and Welfare said 115 people had tested positive in the UK and a total of 18,083 people had been tested when there was fear of a widespread epidemic.
