Former Arsenal youngster Henri Lansbury has bizarrely credited a lawn fertilizer company for his first goal in a Luton Town shirt.
Lansbury scored an absolute beauty as he ended an 81-game scoreless streak, before miming to mow the lawn in a celebration that sent his team-mates into hysterics in a 2-0 win over Hull.
The midfielder, who graduated from the Gunners academy under Arsene Wenger in 2007, became a Championship star with Luton and Nottingham Forest.
Despite his position, the 31-year-old had been kept off the scoresheet since signing for the Hatters in 2021, but you couldn’t tell by watching his first goal for the club.
At the end of the first half the ball fell to Lansbury outside the box, and with time to set up a play he instead ran over it and kicked it into the bottom corner in displaying outrageous technique.
He then went for the ball, before starting an imaginary lawn mower and cutting the grass.
In his post-match interview, Lansbury was asked about the celebration and if gardening is a big thing for him.
“Yeah huge,” he replied. “It takes me away from the training ground with the guys.
“But kudos to the boys at Grass Gains, they are crucial to this. the big man [Carlton Morris] threw a party for us last time and makes his grass nice and green.
Morris added: “Little technology[nical] the volley shows what he is capable of but he scores much better goals than that in training.
The interviewer then continued, “We understand that the gardener gave him his own piece of grass on the training ground, how good is he to take care of it?
“Honestly, it’s like a bowling alley,” Morris replied. “He knows his way around the garden, that’s for sure.”
The interviewer then pulled out his phone and said, “Henry, can I just tell you about my lawn at home?
“As you can see we have a lot of green and there are these little brown specks that worry me, what would you do?
“Reseed it,” Lansbury replied.
“Lovely, I will,” said the Sky reporter.
Chances are we’re not going to see a foreign post-game trade this season…
