Former San Francisco 49ers and New Orleans Saints linebacker Parys Haralson has died, the 49ers announced on Monday. He was 37 years old.
No cause of death has been disclosed.
“The 49ers are heartbroken and shocked at the news of Parys’ tragic death,” the 49ers said in a statement. “Parys was a beloved member of our organization who lived with an extraordinary amount of passion and joy, while leaving an indelible mark on everyone he met. We extend our condolences to the family and loved ones of Parys. “
Haralson played for the 49ers from 2006 to 2012, then played two seasons for the Saints. Following his playing career, Haralson was director of player engagement for the 49ers for two years.
Haralson was a fifth-round selection in the 2006 NFL Draft at the University of Tennessee, where he captained the Volunteers in his senior season.
Haralson started 118 games during his nine-year NFL career, registering 28 sacks. He recorded a career high of eight sacks in 2008.
