James Hird celebrated his 50th birthday on Sunday surrounded by family and friends.
The soccer legend and his wife Tania threw a festive party at their family home in Toorak, Victoria.
Tania shared a series of images from the party, decorated with silver and gold balloons and where 700 meatballs were served.

“An incredible week of preparation for the first day of the Melbourne Gift Fair, a first week back to school and of course a 50th of family proportions!” Tanya wrote.
“So proud of our family of my sister and my brother-in-law who flew in for the case and ‘wouldn’t miss it’ no matter how hard it was to orchestrate,” she continued.
‘To Will, who helped me make 700 meatballs (James’ favorite comfort food), homemade garlic bread, a slice of peppermint and a birthday cake to rival the best in the world. course the previous week as I had to attend the giveaway for part of the day and needed to do everything, set up, wrap and pick up the balloons in advance.

“To Tom and Al for helping me with pre-setup, music, bar etc. and Steph who arranged the best morning for their dad with Asahi bowls and golf after our breakfast coffee during that I was not present,” she continued.

It comes after news the Essendon icon’s long career in the AFL could be over after quitting his coaching role with the GWS Giants in a move that is sure to shock footy fans.

GWS has confirmed his departure after the legend unsuccessfully attempted to secure the vacant Bombers head coaching job last year.
He is now thought to pursue business interests, according to Code Sports.
He joined the Giants in 2022 as a part-time leadership advisor before becoming an assistant coach.
The move followed a long hiatus after he left as Essendon boss in 2015 due to the club’s infamous drug scandal. He led the club for four years.
