Floyd Mayweather sparked potential interest in purchasing the Newcastle United Football Club.
Steve Bruce’s side is regularly the subject of multiple buyout talks, with supporters desperate for current owner Mike Ashley to sell.
In an unexpected twist on his current UK tour, Mayweather was questioned about rumors suggesting he had his eye on a takeover at St James’s Park.
In a question and answer session with fans in Newcastle on Sunday evening, the moderator asked, “You are very, very interested in buying Newcastle United, aren’t you?”
Floyd replied, “In the United States, we call it football, but the Newcastle football team is an incredible team, quite a team.”
He then asked the crowd, who applauded in response to his question, “If people want me to buy the Newcastle team, let me know.”
According to TMZ, Mayweather representatives have confirmed their interest in a possible agreement.
However, they also said that no formal negotiations had yet taken place.
In January, it was reported that a consortium led by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman had made an offer of £ 340 million to buy Newcastle.
Discussions on this agreement have since calmed down.
In his boxing career, Mayweather, it is understood that Mayweather has made almost $ 1 billion.
The fights against Manny Pacquiao and Conor McGregor in particular would have brought him in at around $ 300 million each.
