Floyd Mayweather offers $2 billion to buy an NBA team – OutKick

Floyd “Money” Mayweather lives up to his nickname as the boxing legend wants to buy an NBA team – and he’s willing to pay big bucks for it.

In a new interview with the Earn Your Leisure podcast, Mayweather gave some insight into his quest to own a franchise. He claims he and his business partner Brent Johnson have already offered $2 billion for a majority stake for an unnamed team.

Mayweather says he’s interested in either owning a new expansion team in a city like Las Vegas or Seattle or an established franchise. No new expansion team is expected for years. Meanwhile, the Phoenix Suns are currently looking for a new owner. It has been reported that the Portland Trail Blazers could also be sellers soon.

MAYWEATHER NEEDS TO PARTNER WITH OTHER INVESTORS

Mayweather previously claimed he was worth $1.2 billion, according to NBC Sports. This means that he would need additional funds. The Suns are expected to be sold for a record amount. Brooklyn Nets owner Joe Tsai holds the record for most expensive team buy at $2.35 billion.

Floyd expressed his desire to buy an NBA team as recently as last summer. However, we have now learned how much he is willing to invest of his own money. Other big-name celebrities who have shown interest in the NBA include Shaq as well as Amazon billionaire Jeff Bezos.

If an NBA team comes calling Floyd, he may have to continue doing some of the pseudo-celebrity boxing fights he’s been in recently. They delivered good pay even though the fights themselves are a travesty of the sport.
