More than a decade has passed since Kanye west made his infamous razzmatazz at the 2009 MTV VMAs.
Pop culture fans would probably never forget how it all turned out. First, Taylor Swift’s “You Belong With Me” won the Best Female Video category by beating Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)”.
Shortly after Swift received the award and started her acceptance speech, West stormed the stage, taking the mic from her to announce that Beyoncé deserved the award.
Although the dust has settled for a long time since then, some very puzzling questions remain unanswered? What prompted Kanye’s bizarre decision? How did Swift get on stage with Bey?

Behavior induced by alcohol?
Perhaps Kanye had just given warning signs that he was not really in control and was only at a point where he was falling apart.
In an interview with Billboard in 2019, Whitney-Gayle Benta, former vice president of talent relations at MTV News mentioned that the rapper arrived on the red carpet with a bottle of Hennessy.
“I knew him very well and it seemed very unusual for him to be on the mat like that,” he told Billboard in 2019. “VMAs are very different from the Grammys, but I never had it. never seen in any way.with a bottle of alcohol.
Kanye will share a preview of that day later via Nick Cannon’s “Cannon’s Class” podcast.
“If God didn’t want me to go on stage and Beyoncé to have the best video, he wouldn’t have sat me in the front row.
… I only drank Hennessy because I didn’t want to go to the awards show because it was a stunt, ”he said.
It’s safe to say that being drunk could have pushed West to the limit.
With the backlash that has come, it’s a lesson to everyone that alcohol and conversation don’t mix.
Bey and Swift on stage
According to sources at VMAs, Swift was seen screaming backstage after Kanye’s explosion, Beyoncé was also emotional as the unscripted moment was quite embarrassing.
Something had to happen to end the event on a fairly high note. Then came the former president of Viacom Media Networks Music & Logo Group with a brilliant idea.
“There’s Beyoncé and her dad, and she’s crying. She said to me, “I didn’t know this was going to happen, I feel so bad for her.” And that’s when I started to think, and maybe hers, that the whole arc could play out that night, ”Van Toffler revealed to Billboard.
“At one point, I let Beyoncé know that she was probably going to step on the catwalk at the end of the show for an award. And wouldn’t it be nice for Taylor to come over and have her moment then?
“I had to tell her that she had to stay, and maybe that’s a way to come full circle and let [Taylor] have its moment. Normally I wouldn’t say anything, but I had two artists who were crying, ”he said.
Fans loved seeing the duo on stage calm down the upcoming drama.
The producers had a different plan
In the year of this awards ceremony, the music world had just lost an irreplaceable legend and the show’s executive producer was hoping the event would see several top talent kill her on stage.
“It was the summer Michael Jackson died, so it was a big story for the show,” Jesse Ignjatovic told Billboard.
“Knowing that Janet Jackson was playing with her brother via the synchronized video… Madonna gave that long speech to open the night… I thought that would set the tone and be one of the highlights.”
Lady Gaga, Beyoncé and Swift also delivered some remarkable performances that night. Sadly, Kanye’s stage drama now seems to be the only memory of that day.
All’s well That ends well
A day after the awards show, Van called Scott Borchetta, CEO of Big Machine Records (Swift’s label) to apologize for the unwarranted intrusion.
His reaction was quite unexpected. “He’s like ‘Van, here’s the thing; yesterday most countries had no idea who Taylor Swift was.
Today Oprah Winfrey sent her flowers this morning and asked if she could talk to him.
In total, Swift now has 32 VMA wins, surpassing Michael Jackson’s record of 24 wins.
