Chip and Joanna Gaines release the first trailer for Fixer Upper: Welcome Home – The Castle where they renovate a century-old estate in Texas
Chip and Joanna Gaines have released the first trailer for their new show titled Fixer Upper: Welcome Home – The Castle.
Premiering Friday, Oct. 14 on Discovery+, HBO Max, and the couple’s own Magnolia Network, the limited series will document their renovation of a century-old estate in their native Waco, Texas.
Known as Cottonland Castle, the local landmark is the main event as the stars of Fixer Upper aim to restore this historic property to its former glory across eight episodes.

Cottonland Castle: Built in 1913, the iconic property in Waco, Texas provided the Fixer Uppers with their final challenge
“This castle is one of the most impressive properties in the entire Waco, central Texas area,” Chip says in the trailer. “I’ve wanted it for two decades.”
Chip and Joanna’s passion for the historic castle is soon tested as the scale of their project becomes clear. “This is a much bigger renovation than we expected,” Joanna admits. “Zero steps forward, twelve steps back” is how Chip describes the process at one point.
The renovation appears to be a colossal undertaking for the central pair, with Magnolia’s brand manager Kate Barton previously calling it the “toughest restoration project ever undertaken by Chip, Joanna and her team”.

Collapsing ceilings, water leaks, window issues and design issues abound in this first look at the highly anticipated show. The most challenging aspect seems to be their goal of regaining the authenticity of the 1913 property.
“One of the biggest things is how do you make it as accurate as possible for that time period,” says Joanna, 44. “Getting the exact same stone from 100 years ago was a challenge.”
Apparently referring to the precise restoration of an intricately tiled floor, Chip, 47, describes the challenge as “such an exotic and elaborate puzzle” before lamenting the varying lengths of flooring.
Fun and frustration: Joanna couldn’t help but giggle as Chip described the infuriating problems with installing her complex window selections
But the couple’s hard work seems to be paying off as their vision begins to take shape. “Wow,” Chip gushed near the end of the trailer. “When we bought this place it was a figment of our imagination, but now this house is coming together.”
The Magnolia founders are keeping their big reveal under wraps, but they do show off some previews of the final look in the trailer. Viewers can see a porcelain bathtub in one of the castle’s beautifully appointed bathrooms, while antique furniture tastefully adorns a sample of the many refurbished bedrooms.
The renovation is the realization of a 20-year dream for the couple, who first met in 2001 before marrying in 2003. Writing in the Winter 2019 issue of Magnolia Journal, the mother-of-five Children wrote, “For nearly two decades, Chip watched and waited, constantly bidding each time the castle came up for sale. She then praised her husband for seeing “the beauty and potential” of the property, ultimately giving him credit for their successful design adventure. “We did it,” Joanna says at the end of the trailer. The public will soon be able to tune in and see how he fared.

Out of the old, into the new: Construction chaos ensued as the couple’s team got to work ripping out what needed to go and making way for Chip and Joanna’s vision
Not easy: The project proved to be a maze of design challenges as Joanna described the difficulty of authentically restoring the historic castle to its former glory.
