Every week of the NFL regular season is wild, there’s no getting away from it. In Week 4 we saw the Seattle Seahawks and Detroit Lions combine for over 1,000 total yards and 93 points as the Las Vegas Raiders earned their first win of the season against Broncos country. — which isn’t rolling right now — and the Minnesota Vikings and New Orleans Saints give us an unexpected thriller from across the pond.
If you’re looking for the best NFL Week 4 highlights, you’ve come to the wrong place (click on here). In this column, we break down the craziest moments of the week in the NFL. For the first few weeks, we’ve talked about combat, UFO delays, and all the low points you secretly dream of. Let’s see what this past Sunday has brought us.
We probably all knew someone like that when we were playing football growing up. Someone who had no problem diving in or putting their body on the line to play, even when they weren’t necessarily near the action.
During a possible Raiders scoop-and-score on Sunday, Broncos left tackle Garett Bolles made an epic diving attempt on Amik Robertson. However, it just came up short. Honestly, this is my favorite game of the week.
4. Marcus Peters seems to go after John Harbaugh
In the first 26 seasons in franchise history, the Baltimore Ravens have consistently gone 100-3 when leading by 17 or more points in a game. This season they are 1-2 when leading by 17 or more points in a game. The Ravens suffered another epic slump against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday as they lost a 20-3 lead.
The Ravens had a chance to break a 20-20 tie with about four minutes left in the fourth quarter, but John Harbaugh opted to go on fourth and the Bills’ 2-yard line goal. Instead of a touchdown, Lamar Jackson was picked in the end zone by Jordan Poyer, who set up the Bills’ eventual game-winning run with the touchdown.
The Bills walked onto the field over the next few minutes, and as they called a timeout just before their game-winning field goal, Ravens cornerback Marcus Peters came off the field and appeared to chew on his head coach. He had to be held on the sidelines.
According to AthleticsPeters screamed in frustration, threw off his helmet and tried to get into Harbaugh’s face.
“Emotions are running high,” Harbaugh said of Peters’ post-game situation, Going through The Baltimore Sun. “We’re on the same page. We have a great relationship. …I love him. I hope he still loves me.”
3. DK Metcalf was dragged into the bathroom?
Metcalf was not transported to the locker room on Sunday, he was transported to the BATHROOM. The Seahawks star spooked fans in the fourth quarter of their game against the Lions as Fox cameras showed Metcalf being carried off the field.
Turns out he only had to use the bathroom, as the broadcast crew later learned. Metcalf confirmed this story after the game. Kudos to him for at least admitting it. I’m sure we’re all still wondering about the time Lamar Jackson walked off the court in Cleveland a few years ago for his “cramps.”
Really, I think this is one of the biggest shockers of the 2022 season so far. After quarterback Mac Jones suffered a severe ankle sprain last week, it was Brian Hoyer who was charged with leading the shorthanded Patriots to Lambeau Field to face the Packers. It was not a highly anticipated game, as the gap was about 10 points in favor of the Packers. The live line quickly swelled to around GB -13 in the first quarter, when Hoyer suffered a head injury. The veteran was replaced by rookie Bailey Zappe, and it looked like the Packers were on the verge of a run.
Somehow the Patriots hung in there. They even built a 10-7 halftime lead after Aaron Rodgers kicked a six-pick with 13 seconds left before halftime. In fact, Zappe’s offense has scored a touchdown in each of the last three quarters. The game was wild in more ways than one, as Zappe even got an extra two or three seconds on the game clock to throw a touchdown at DeVante Parker!
It looked like the Packers would finally get the win late in the fourth quarter with a game-winning 40-yard touchdown pass from Rodgers to Romeo Doubs, but the rookie failed to secure the ball and we were off to overtime.
The Packers won the toss and got the ball first, but got it three times! Zappe and the offense then took over and got to the Packers 46-yard line, but also had to punt. Rodgers and Co. didn’t waste their next possession, and Mason Crosby threw a game-winning field goal from 31 yards as time expired in the extra period.
Zappe completed 10 of 15 passes for 99 yards and a touchdown in his NFL debut, while running backs Damien Harris and Rhamondre Stevenson combined for 152 yards and a rushing touchdown. You never would have guessed this game was close by looking at the box score, but the Patriots did a stellar job of hanging out.
1. Double doink in London
If you couldn’t catch up to the end of Game 1 on Sunday, you really missed it. Some were surprised that the Saints gave the Vikings a game, some were surprised by the total number of points scored, but everyone was surprised by the way the game ended.
Down three points with just 24 seconds left in the fourth quarter, Saints quarterback Andy Dalton hit rookie Chris Olave for a 32-yard gain to reach the Vikings’ 43-yard line. Wil Lutz certainly has the leg for a 61-yard field goal, so Dennis Allen sent him there, and that’s what happened:
It was really one of the few times during a placement attempt where you had no idea what had happened. You see the ball bounce, but you don’t know if it went in or not. You must therefore rely on the referees to deliver the verdict! Absolute heartbreak for New Orleans.
