Finneas reveals why he’s not jealous of Billie Eilish’s fame – Far Out Magazine

Finneas spoke about the negative aspects of fame. Speaking of his sister, Billie Eilish, he shared the “consequence” of success on her scale.

Even though Finneas acts as Eilish’s right-hand man and closest collaborator, co-writing and producing her songs, their levels of fame certainly differ. Eilish is the face of the project and acts as a solo artist. It is therefore his image plastered everywhere and his face which is now instantly recognizable by a large proportion of the world while his notoriety only seems to grow.

For his brother, it’s a problem, as he revealed during a new interview with Dax Shepard on the Armchair expert podcast.

“Being as famous as Billie is a nightmare. I would never want that,” he said. However, the musician praises his sister’s ability to handle pressure, adding: “She carries it really well and she’s basically a rock star.”

However, seeing her sister experience this level of fame solidified her desire to play more of a background role in order to protect her life.

“I see him at a function, and I don’t want to have that, and I don’t pretend to have that,” he continued. For him, this presents a huge inconvenience that makes life almost unlivable. He said: “The consequence is that she can’t do anything. She can’t really move around.

This statement adds even more emotion when you consider how young Eilish was when she debuted as a star, and even now she’s only 22 years old. The singer was only 13 years old when her hit “Ocean Eyes” was released. Surprisingly, she was not yet eight years old when her first album, When we all fall asleep, where do we go?came out and became stratospheric.

Finneas also highlighted how gender contributes to how she is treated. “I think people interact differently with women in the public eye,” he explained.

“They are not intimidated by them as they should be and as they do with respect towards men,” he continued.

Throughout the interview, he discussed several strange or uncomfortable encounters with paparazzi or fans that Eilish has experienced due to her success. “They have no qualms about putting a phone in Billie’s face and saying, ‘This is my sister on FaceTime,'” he recalls.

However, he acknowledges that it is a largely irrelevant experience, reserved only for the rich and famous. Still, it doesn’t change how he and his family feel, as he stated: “I know it’s a privilege and we’re all lucky, but it’s fucking rude. »

For him, this is something that needs to be emphasized more in order to protect people like his sister and allow her to live fully and safely rather than feeling limited by her success. “I actually don’t feel bad saying that because everyone is so alienated from civility and you wouldn’t do any of that to your friend,” he said. “That’s just absolutely rude.”

Eilish is preparing to release her third album, Hit me hard and softon May 17.
