The Ecuadorian football federation is indicted for the alleged chants of its supporters

The alleged chants at Al Bayt Stadium reportedly focused on Chile, who took legal action ahead of the competition as they tried to overtake Ecuador.

Chile accused Ecuador of using an ineligible player but ultimately lost the legal battle to fight for their place in Qatar.

Following the chants, FIFA cited the section of its disciplinary code dealing with discrimination at the Ecuadorian football federation.

No timeline was given for the punishment, however.

Ecuadorian fans also made headlines after chanting that there would be no alcohol at this year’s World Cup.

The South Americans sang ‘we want beer’ as their side sealed a 2-0 win over the hosts.

Gustavo Alfaro’s team will then face the Netherlands, co-leaders of Group A, on Friday at 4 p.m.
