Is there bad blood between Charlie puth and Billie Eilish? Fans believe there may be some after the “Attention” singer posted a new TikTok video earlier this week.
In the now-viral clip, Charlie, 30, made a “point” in which he answered another TikTok user’s question, “Who’s a musician everyone loves, but not you?” The video is then cut on the crooner “We Don’t Talk Anymore” lying in his bed in beatboxing. He then tells viewers, “I have my Invisalign. I wonder what grade it is,” before continuing to beatbox. The New Jersey native simply captioned the video, “Bored.”
Immediately, fans took to the comments section and started speculating that Charlie may have been referring to Billie. In the intro – titled “!!!!!!!” – for Billie’s first record, When we all fall asleep, where do we go?, the “Bad Guy” singer said, “I took out my Invisalign, and here’s the album,” before going into the first song.
“Why do I think he’s overshadowing Billie?” A TikTok user wrote. Another asked, “Did he just shade Billie E?”
A third commented: “He better not refer to Miss Billie Eilish. It’s my daughter.”
As to why followers thought Charlie might be referring to Billie? One commentator offered a possible explanation, writing: “It is because of what [she] said in [an] interview about him.
When the Happier than ever musician appeared on Sirius XM’s “The Howard Stern Show” in December 2021, she recalled a dinner at Elton johnin which she gave the legendary artist a box of chocolates.
“The next day I get a DM from little boy Charlie Puth and he says, ‘Yo, where did you get those chocolates Elton had? “” Billie said during the interview. “F-king called him Elton. I was like, ‘Hey Charlie, get the fk out of my DMs. I don’t care.’
While some fans were convinced that Charlie’s TikTok was a subtle shade in Billie, others believe he might have been trolling himself. For months, the “One Call Away” singer has been teasing a song called “Light Switch” on TikTok and fans are constantly wondering when the track will be released. A few eagle-eyed followers seemed to debunk Billie’s shadow theory and instead speculated that in her TikTok, after the “Who’s a musician everyone loves, but don’t you?” question was asked, Charlie beat “Light Switch”.
“I’m pretty sure he’s referring to himself, guys, lmao,” one person commented. Another wrote: “This is ‘Light Switch’ beatboxing for me.”
Some other TikTok users praised him for being “self-aware”, while others just want him to release the song at last. One follower commented, “Stick to the finish of ‘Light Switch’ Charlie.”
As for when will Charlie’s new music be released? He offered a major update while chatting with Billboard in September 2021.
“I’m working on my album here at the studio now,” Charlie revealed. “Everyone pisses me off by asking, ‘When is this going to be done? But you can’t rush that stuff. I do everything myself, so it takes me a bit longer than most artists.
