Ed Sheeran is back in the Pokemon world, following in the footsteps of other great artists by creating his own Pokemon-adjacent track.
Think back to 2021 when Katy Perry, J Balvin and Post Malone all came together to Pokemon 25: Scrapbook? And Katy Perry and Post Malone each had their own music videos for their Pokemon pieces, with Katy Perry easily being the best?
Well it doesn’t look like Pokemon”s foray into the world of pop comes to a halt anytime soon, as Ed Sheeran has announced on his Instagram that he’ll be releasing a new track next week titled ‘Celestial’.
The caption reads:
“I started with Pokemon cards when the craze hit in elementary school when I was about 7, then the TV show was on TV, so I was trying to record it on the same VHS every week.”
“After that, my brother and I shared a game boy and a blue Pokemon. I got a Game Boy color with Pokémon yellow for my 8th birthday, obsessed was an understatement.
“Flash forward for me at 31, I still have the same game boy color and still play Pokémon Silver on long haul flights. I really really like it. It gave me a good escape as a kid into a fantasy world that seemed to go on forever, and in adult life it’s nostalgia that makes me feel like a kid again.
“I met the Pokémon people when I was traveling in Japan, and we joked about me writing a song for them. But now here we are.
“Celestial comes out next Thursday, and the video is incredibly amazing, brought to life by the amazing folks at Pokémon. I love it, you will love it. And we all have to catch them all.
The photo above is from the cover of the single and shows Sheeran with what looks like a monobrow Pikachu. Frankly? I think it’s really cute.
It is unclear whether or not the song itself will Pokemon theme, like the songs on the Pokemon 25 the album were not directly related to Pokemon.
However, it looks like we’ll be getting a music video for “Celestial” which will be animated directly by the folks at The Pokémon Company, so that’ll be cool to see!
This is of course not Ed Sheeran’s first direct foray into the Pokemon world. While he’s been all his life Pokemon fan, he also had this very weird exclusive Pokemon Go ‘concert’. It was funny as hell.
