John B and Sarah will still be very much in love in the third season of ‘Outer Banks,’ but for stars Chase Stokes and Madelyn Cline, filming the hit Netflix show’s third season marked their first post-breakup collaboration. The young couple broke up in November 2021, shortly after celebrating their first anniversary. But while it would have been understandable for things to be weird on set between the actors, Stokes and Cline revealed to Entertainment Weekly that their professional relationship is still going strong.
“Mads and I have worked together for 30 episodes, and we promised each other before we even started dating that work would always come first,” Stokes explained. “And that no matter what happens in our personal lives and how life sometimes takes you in different directions, we’re always going to honor the job. That has remained 100% truthful this season.”
Cline added, “We had a working relationship before we had a personal relationship, and our job from day one has always been to leave the show better than we found it. I’m really, really happy and I I’m very proud to work on her this season, and I’m incredibly grateful for my co-stars and their professionalism and how talented each of them is.”
The ‘Knives Out: Glass Onion’ actor added that she and Stokes have “always shown up for each other when it comes to work and this show.” It’s something that continued into season three, which is set to premiere February 23 on Netflix.
Series co-creator Jonas Pate stood by his stars, telling the outlet that they were consummate professionals throughout filming the show’s third season. “Honestly, and it’s not just me: they’re pros,” Pate said. “They did incredibly well on set, and you’d never know they had a relationship off camera. They were awesome. It’s an honor for Chase and Maddie, they just put their heads down and got the job done. good for them.”
Cline and Stokes went Instagram official with their relationship in a since-deleted Instagram post shared in October 2020 by Stokes. “Cats out of the bag,” he captioned a photo from their beach date. In March 2022, there was speculation the actors might have reunited, but in January Stokes appeared to be dating singer Kelsea Ballerini (although their romance was unconfirmed), while Cline revealed that she was living with her boyfriend, whose identity she has. did not share, to Malibu in a December 2022 interview with The Cut.
Even though they’ve both moved on, it’s clear these exes are determined to put on the best show possible.
“It was a joy to describe this story of enemies to lovers, of forbidden lovers,” Cline shared with EW. “It’s still quite a journey this year. We’ve really focused on choosing family, and also relationships and friendships are tough and sometimes it gets messy, but you still care, you still love hard. .”
