Chris Sutton believes Tottenham have a good chance of becoming leaders of Group D in the Champions League this season after this week’s draw.
Tottenham were included in Pot 2 and could have faced a tough line-up of big-name sides. However, they benefited from a much more favorable outcome with a rather balanced group of three opponents.
Spurs have been pitted against Eintracht Frankfurt, Sporting CP and Marseille as they look to enjoy a strong run in the prestigious competition under Antonio Conte.
It comes after the Italian boss spearheaded qualification for the tournament with excellent form in the Premier League last season.
Frankfurt are coming off an impressive Europa League win which saw them beat Barcelona and West Ham United for the trophy, earning them a place in pot one.
However, they have started quite poorly this season which has left them bottom of the Bundesliga table. Sporting are in the same boat, having also been inconsistent in the Primeira Liga so far.
Marseille, on the other hand, picked up where they left off in the previous campaign despite losing Jorge Sampaoli in the summer.
Sutton believes Conte’s side will have “every chance” of finishing the year as group leaders, even if their opponents are not “pushbacks”.
The former centre-forward also expects them to have an intriguing clash against the French giants due to the presence of several former Arsenal stars in their squad.
In his Daily Mail column, Sutton wrote: “How fortunate for Tottenham. Marseille is an interesting game because of its relationship with Arsenal. They have Alexis Sanchez, Matteo Guendouzi, Sead Kolasinac and Nuno Tavares.
“Premier League fans will also recognize former West Ham favorite Dimitri Payet and Eric Bailly on loan from Manchester United. Frankfurt and Sporting are no pushovers, but Tottenham have every chance of dominating this band.

Despite a favorable draw, Tottenham cannot afford to be lackluster in the Champions League. With Marseille in great form at the moment, they could prove to be tricky opposition for Spurs, although the current situation at Frankfurt and Sporting could help the north London club try to take the next step.
