Sergio Sette Camara has been appointed test and reserve driver for the Red Bull and AlphaTauri Formula 1 outfits for the 2020 season.
Sette Camara was previously on the books of Red Bull (pictured below) as part of his junior team in 2016, when he spent last year in a test and development role for the F1 team rival McLaren.
He will share his F1 duties this year with longtime Red Bull reserve driver and Sébastien Buemi, a regular at Nissan e.dams.
“I am extremely pleased to join the Red Bull family as the official Test & Reserve driver for the 2020 Formula 1 season alongside Sebastian,” said Sette Camara.
“I have been watching F1 since the age of five and I am honored to have had the opportunity to work with Aston Martin Red Bull Racing and Scuderia AlphaTauri.”
Originally dropped by Red Bull after finishing 11th in his second season of European F3, Sette Camara has since played three consecutive campaigns in the FIA Formula 2 support category.
He finished 12th, sixth and fourth of the respective seasons, and is not on the grid this year, having already collected the 40 points required for an FIA super license.
Commenting on why he will not continue in F2 this year, he said: “I will not continue there because things were not right to be there, and also because in a way it became irrelevant to me.
“I have already done three years, I have already obtained a super license, and at one point, you seem to be in the same place all the time.
“It could be other better ways to run.”
Sette Camara has already tested this year with Carlin in IndyCar and with Dragon in Formula E, having also joined this last operation as a test and reserve pilot.
The Brazilian, who has not yet officially confirmed his racing program for the coming season, will be present in his new F1 role at the opening Australian Grand Prix of the season this weekend.
