Sony’s upcoming films have a new home, thanks to a recently signed distribution deal with Netflix that will bring several major releases to the popular streaming service. Five-year deal means all Sony theatrical releases, starting in 2022, will be available exclusively on Netflix – including the next one Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse suites, video game adaptation Unexplored, and the upcoming Marvel Morbius movie, starring Jared Leto.
The Netflix deal will go into effect after Sony’s current deal with Starz expires and only applies to films released from 2022. This means that Venom: May there be carnage and Spider-Man: No Coming Home are not included in the agreement, but in the future Venom and Spider Man the suites will be.

After the coronavirus pandemic forced theaters around the world to close, streaming has become more important than ever to allow audiences to enjoy the latest movie releases. Here’s a look at all of the Sony movies coming to Netflix in 2022 – and beyond.
Escape room 2
Not to be confused with the 2017 horror film of the same name, 2019 Escape room was directed by Adam Robitel and starred Taylor Russell and Logan Miller. The film follows a group of six strangers who are invited to participate in an elaborate escape room that soon turns into a deadly nightmare. Escape room was a box office success and Sony quickly ignited a sequel, with Robitel returning to directing, Russell and Miller reprising their roles, and new cast additions including Isabelle Fuhrman, Thomas Cocquerel, Hollan Roden, Carlito Olivero and Indya Moore . Escape room 2 is slated to hit theaters on January 7, 2022, and is slated to hit Netflix in fall 2022.
With Venom Turning out to be a surprise hit for Sony, the next new Marvel franchise on the horizon is Morbius, with Jared Leto in the lead role as the titular “living vampire”. Leto plays Michael Morbius, a scientist who accidentally turns into a vampire while trying to cure his rare blood disease. The first trailer for Morbius released in January 2020, but like many upcoming films, its release date has been delayed several times due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Morbius is now set to hit theaters on January 21, 2022, and is slated to hit Netflix in the fall of 2022.
As well as being the face of the Sony Spider-Man live-action movie franchise, Tom Holland is also set to star as Nathan Drake in an upcoming adaptation of the popular. Unexplored action-adventure games. The character is a rogue treasure hunter in the vein of Indiana Jones and Lara Croft, and the film will serve as the origin story for the games, depicting Nathan in his early years. Directed by Venomby Ruben Fleischer, Unexplored will co-star Mark Wahlberg, Antonio Banderas, Sophia Taylor Ali and Tati Gabrielle. After a long sentence in development hell and multiple release date delays due to the pandemic, Unexplored is now set for a theatrical release on February 18, 2022. Expect to see it on Netflix in late 2022.
Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse 2
Sony Pictures Animation’s Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse was a love letter to the chaotic world of comic book multiverse that paid off well for Sony, winning an Oscar for Best Animated Feature and a resounding 97% score on Rotten Tomatoes. The studio soon lit green in both a follow-up and a spinoff, and the still untitled Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse The sequel is now slated for October 7, 2022. Shameik Moore and Hailee Steinfeld will reprise their roles as Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy, and the film is being directed by Avatar: The Last Airbender and Legend of Korra former Joaquim Dos Santos. Expect to see Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse 2 on Netflix in the summer of 2023.
Directed by David Leitch (Deadpool 2), the upcoming action thriller Bullet Train has a stacked cast that includes Brad Pitt, Brian Tyree Henry, Joey King, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Lady Gaga, Michael Shannon, Hiroyuki Sanada, and Sandra Bullock. The film is based on the novel by Kōtarō Isaka Maria beetle, and follows the journey of a Japanese high-speed train whose passengers include five assassins. During the train’s journey from Tokyo to Marioka, the hitmen on board realize that their missions are linked. High-speed train finished filming in March 2021 and Netflix has confirmed the Twitter that it is one of the films included in the agreement with Sony. We can expect it to hit theaters in 2022, arriving on Netflix around nine months later.
Where the Crawdads sing
Murder mystery and coming of age tale Where the Crawdads sing is based on the novel of the same name by Delia Owens, directed by Olivia Newman. The story follows “swamp girl” Kya, who was abandoned by her family as a child and grew up in the swamp outside a small town in North Carolina, eventually writing books about the land. fauna and flora of the marsh. Kya is suspicious of the townspeople and ends up getting embroiled in a murder trial after the murder of her ex-boyfriend. Where the Crawdads sing is set to begin filming this month, but does not yet have a release date.
Masters of the Universe

Centineo is set to move away from romantic comedies and become a classic action hero as He-Man in a new Masters of the Universe film, which has been plagued with production delays and has yet to begin filming. Masters of the Universe was at one point slated for release on March 5, 2021, but has since been taken off Sony’s schedule. If production finally kicks off this year, it could hit theaters in 2022 and hit Netflix in 2023.
Venom: May there be carnage is slated for release on September 24, 2021, with Andy Serkis directing and Tom Hardy returning as Eddie Brock, an investigative reporter playing the host of an alien symbiote. The first film might not have been high art, but it was funny and weird enough to win the hearts of audiences and a fair number of critics – not to mention the $ 856 million box office win. It’s still early days, of course, but assuming the upcoming sequel is a similar success, Venom 3 will be one of the films included in the new Sony and Netflix distribution agreement.
Bad boys 4
Due to the coronavirus pandemic which has closed theaters for most of the year, Bad boys for life ended up being the highest grossing American film of 2020. The third film in the Bad Boys The series saw Will Smith and Martin Lawrence reprise their roles as Miami detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett, respectively, as the duo went deep into an assassination attempt. Welcome to the Jungle was a big box office hit, as was the sequel to 2019 Jumanji: the next level, and in March 2021, it was confirmed that Jumanji 4 is in early development. Hopefully we’ll see the four main stars – Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Karen Gillan, and Kevin Hart – return for another adventure in the not too distant future.
