Of course, it is ultimately as an actor that Hanks will be best remembered, and with good reason. After all, despite his downright approachable personality, the actor has demonstrated serious lineage over the decades. In return, he has been recognized with two Academy Awards for Best Actor, millions and millions of dollars, tons of critical praise and no shortage of fan loyalty.
For Hanks, the acting journey began in the early 1970s, when he was won over by Eugene O’Neill’s play “The Iceman Cometh”. Suddenly enamored of the profession, Hanks enrolled in the theater program at California State University. Before long, he starred on the short-lived “Bosom Buddies” TV show, then caught his big break in the 1984 Ron Howard hit film, “Splash.” Cementing Hanks’ status as a true movie star was his performance as a teenager trapped in the body of a grown man in “Big” in 1988. He has been a true top talent ever since.
In his honor, Stacker has gathered data from Metacritic and IMDb to rank every Tom Hanks movie. Scores are weighted equally to obtain a Stacker score. With the exception of two films (“Every Time We Say Goodbye” and “He Knows You’re Alone”) which did not have Metascores and which received Stacker scores which represent their IMDb user ratings, the films were ordered by Stacker score. All films in which Hanks played a primary or supporting role are included, and TV movies, short films, uncredited roles or cameos are excluded. The initial links were broken by Metascore, with subsequent links broken by IMDb user rating and user votes. Without further ado, here are all of the Tom Hanks movies ranked from worst to first.
