Although better known in pop media as Black Widow and Captain America, Scarlett Johansson and Chris Evans both have impressive acting careers outside of the MCU. While Evans started his career with television roles and a handful of films before Captain America, Johansson first appeared on stage as a child actor in Off-Broadway. Evans built a career playing the quintessentially American guy next door, and Johansson made her way from child actor to ingenue and independent sweetheart.
Prior to their work in the MCU, Evans and Johansson first starred opposite each other in The perfect score. Now that their Marvel deals are up, both actors are embarking on exciting new projects: Evans’ upcoming movies include The gray man (with Ryan Gosling), Light yearandThe Original Apple Movie Phantom; Meanwhile, Johansson’s Sing 2 released at Christmas last year, and, according to SlashFilm, it should appear in A24 Bride and potentially from Disney The Tower of Terror. In reality, Phantom was originally set to play both Evans and Johansson before the actress dropped out. However, the two will reunite again for Jason Bateman’s space race drama Artemis Project. Evans and Johansson have played together in eight moves (so far) – here’s a look at how they rank against the rest.
8 The perfect score
The first film on our list didn’t do so well at the box office, as it only made $10 million and received negative reviews from critics, unhappy with its lack of originality. The plot tells the story of six high school students who are afraid of failing their SAT, so they decide to break into a regional office to steal all the exam answers. The perfect score tries to send a message that your goals and dreams are more than just a test score. Evans plays lead character Kyle, while Johansson plays Francesca, the office owner’s daughter.
seven Avengers: Age of Ultron
Nope avengers The movie would be complete without Captain America’s patriotic character and Black Widow’s razor-sharp fighting abilities. Released in 2015, Avengers: Age of Ultron grossed over $1.4 billion worldwide and received positive reviews from critics. The Avengers must fight an artificial intelligence Ultron, who wants humans to disappear. The more Evans and Johansson appear on screen together in the MCU movies, the more we can notice that they sort of exude the same overprotective “follow the rules” energy and maybe that’s one of the reasons why they understand each other so well. .
6 Captain America: Civil War
The third Captain America movie or just another avengers film? Despite the obvious title, the movie basically stars almost every existing Avengers and even new characters like Ant-Man, Spider-man, Wanda, and Vision. In Captain America: Civil War, the team comes into disagreement over international oversight of the Avengers and their missions. While Tony thinks the government should ignore their actions, Steve’s team thinks superheroes should be free from influence. Despite Nat’s friendship with Captain Rogers, she makes a surprising decision to join Tony’s team.
5 The Avengers
2012 was the first time we got to see all the superheroes together on one screen battling the army of Loki and Thanos. It was also the first time that Natasha and Steve met. Like the last Phase One film, The Avengers did exceptionally well both with critics and at the box office, grossing over $1.5 billion worldwide. Although we could see some struggles in their collective teamwork early on, it seemed like Natasha and Steve instantly got along as a team.
4 nanny diaries
The 2007 comedy-drama nanny diaries tells the story of a college graduate (Johansson) who agrees to work as a nanny for a wealthy family and must juggle their dysfunction, her new romance in the form of Evans as a “Harvard Hottie” and the child that she has in her to care. If you watch this movie as an MCU fan, there’s a parallel with Johansson dressed ridiculously in American propaganda gear, almost retrospectively mocking Evans for his Captain America costume. Of course, this film was released long before The Avengersbut it’s a good idea.
3 Avengers: Infinity War
Avengers: Infinity War became the first superhero film to gross over $2 billion worldwide. Praised primarily for its visual effects and emotional weight, the plot focuses on the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy as they attempt to stop Thanos from collecting all six Infinity Stones and wiping out half the population. Captain America and Natasha were fleeing the government beforeInfinity Warand although we could see what Nat was doing in the Black Widow movie, we’d also like to see how Steve spent his time. Naturally, all of the Avengers reunite at the end, with Nat and Steve fighting side by side.
2 Avengers: Endgame
As expected, Avengers: Endgame was a huge box office success grossing over $2.798 billion worldwide, surpassing Infinity Warthe whole theater tour in just 11 days. The film received numerous nominations and critical acclaim for its direction, visual effects, and, again, its emotional weight. Considering Natasha and Steve were one of the few Avengers who weren’t wiped out by the snap, we could see just how deep their friendship ran. We all know how this movie ends for Natasha’s character, and many were upset that it didn’t make Natasha and Steve an endgame.
1 Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Captain America: The Winter Soldier was released in 2014 and instantly became a commercial success, receiving critical acclaim for the action sequences and the cast performances. Steve Rogers teams up with Natasha Romanoff and Sam Wilson (Falcon) to uncover a SHIELD plot, while battling a new villain known as The Winter Soldier. This is the movie that has shown us the close friendship of Natasha and Steve the most. From finding sanctuary in Sam’s house to joining their powers to battle and save Bucky, the film proves their relationship is completely underrated.
