Everton suffer another strike blow with Wolves closing in on Chelsea ace Michy Batshuayi as an emergency substitute after Raul Jimenez injury

Wolves are in advanced talks with Chelsea over a season-long loan deal for striker Michy Batshuayi, according to talkSPORT.

The Belgian striker, also wanted by Everton, has been fielded as cover for injured Raul Jimenez and Chelsea are ready to pay a percentage of his wages.

Batshuayi took part in Chelsea’s pre-season

After joining the Blues in 2016, Batshuayi has spent his entire career on loan since January 2018.

The 28-year-old spent the 2021/22 campaign at Besiktas and scored 14 goals in 33 league appearances.

He continues to be a key player for Belgium ahead of the 2022 World Cup this winter, scoring 25 times in 45 international appearances.

Batshuayi was set to join former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard at Everton, who is in desperate need of attacking reinforcements following Richarlison’s £60million exit and an injury to Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

However, Wolves have now become favorites to secure his services for the next campaign – which starts on Friday night.

Vagabonds were forced into the market when first-choice striker Jimenez damaged his MCL in a pre-season friendly against Besiktas and the Mexican is set to be sidelined for up to eight weeks .

Chelsea are also short on centre-forward options having failed to sign a replacement for Romelu Lukaku – who was recently sent to Inter Milan on loan.

The Blues are likely to use Kai Havertz as the No.1 striker with Armando Broja as a replacement, with Timo Werner’s future also in doubt amid links with Newcastle and RB Leipzig.

The Premier League is back and talkSPORT has it covered, with games on Friday, Saturday and Monday, starting with Crystal Palace against Arsenal on August 5
