Oct 17 (Reuters) – European governments have seen a sharp increase in the median number of primary traders handling their debt trading for the first time since 2013, the Association of Financial Markets in Europe (AFME) said on Monday.

There were six entries and four exits of primary dealers between January and September 2022. The net increase of two dealers means that the median number of primary dealers in the European market increased for the first time since September 2013, said the ‘AFME in a report on the government. bond markets.

The increase was driven by three banks that joined the Italian main concessionaire, AFME said. He added that Italy now has 19 active primary traders, the highest since 2015.

European government bond trading volumes remained strong in the second quarter, posting a 10% year-on-year increase, AFME said. This was the highest average daily transaction volume ever recorded in the second quarter, AFME added, although it was down 4.9% from the first quarter.
