Manchester United legend Paul Scholes believes Erling Haaland is the perfect man to end the club’s search for a striker.
The Borussia Dortmund star is linked to all the big clubs in Europe, especially Man United and Manchester City, following another extraordinary campaign.
United sadly failed to sign the 20-year-old in January 2020 – and since then the Norwegian has established himself as one of the best young players in world football.
Meanwhile, at Old Trafford questions continue to be asked of Anthony Martial up front, while Edinson Cavani, 34, cannot be seen as a long-term solution.
Iconic Red Devils midfielder Scholes is hoping Haaland’s relationship with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who coached him at Molde, could help his former club win the race for the 150million-valued striker. books this summer.
“He has that relationship with Ole and we all know how good he is,” Scholes told talkSPORT 2.
“Man United desperately need a No.9, a center-forward at all levels. Haaland would be the perfect choice, of course he would.
However, Scholes is concerned that City may have the advantage as Haaland’s father played for them at the time.
Alf-Inge Haaland spent three years at Leeds and City, United’s two fiercest rivals, and was famous at the end of a shameful Roy Keane tackle in a Manchester derby.
Alf-Inge, who recently spoke with Real Madrid and Barcelona to discuss his son’s future alongside agent Mino Raiola, will play an important role in any potential transfer.
“There are a few other names that could do it,” Scholes added. “We must also think of his father with the City link. It could be strong in this situation.
“But let’s see. Fingers crossed, if he moves, he arrives on the red side of Manchester.
