Erling Haaland has the potential to join a ‘special elite’ including Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Zinedine Zidane.
That’s the view of Man City legend Vincent Kompany, who watched the Norwegian torment his FA Cup side Burnley and score a sixth hat-trick of the season.

Guardiola gave Haaland a huge hug after his hat-trick against Burnley
The striker, signed this summer from Borussia Dortmund, now has 42 goals in 37 games in all competitions following the 6-0 quarter-final win.
Kompany’s Clarets, on the verge of winning promotion to the Premier League, had no answer to Haaland’s astonishing penalty area play.
They were saved from further netbusting antics when Pep Guardiola, for the second game in a row, replaced the striker just after the hour mark.
And the towering superstar, who scored five midweek goals against RB Leipzig in the Champions League, reminds Kompany of the best to play the game.
“I played against the greatest – Messi, Ronaldinho, Zidane, Cristiano Ronaldo,” Kompany said.
“And in the end, they’re part of a special elite because even the best have a hard time stopping these guys – and someone like Erling will keep finding a way.

Kompany couldn’t do anything to stop the Norwegian
“His game can and will still improve and maybe that’s the difference with other superstars – he’s always ready to improve.
“I think his goalscoring record in general puts him in a certain bracket, a certain category.
“I don’t need to say more than show you his goalscoring record. But I also see the mindset of someone wanting to improve. So if he keeps doing that – and he’s going to have to – it’s not something you experience often.
