England men’s team matches will once again be shown on ITV from September 2024.
Channel 4 has won the right to broadcast coverage of Gareth Southgate’s side outside of major tournaments from 2022 onwards, including last year’s Nations League as well as England’s qualifying campaign for the Euro 2024.
But after the final in Germany next summer, England’s matches will be shown on ITV, which has a deal with UEFA to show matches between September 2024 and June 2028.
The deal includes friendlies, qualifiers and Nations League matches.
Niall Sloane, ITV’s Director of Sport, said: “We’re delighted to bring the England men’s team back to ITV, continuing to cover their progress between major tournaments on free-to-air television.
“We have an experienced team here who can’t wait to bring viewers all the action and insight from England’s qualifying campaigns in the years to come.”
Coverage will include the Three Lions’ campaign to reach the 2026 World Cup, which will take place in the United States, Mexico and Canada. Qualification for Euro 2028 will also be displayed.
England – along with Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland – have expressed interest in hosting the tournament. However, it is understood that the Three Lions are expected to play in the qualifiers even if they win the right to co-host the tournament.
The Times reports that UEFA expects all five hosts to play in the qualifying groups, with the two places automatically reserved for any host nation that fails to advance. If three or four host countries fail to qualify, the top two will fill the reserve spots.
UEFA will announce the tournament hosts on October 10, with the British Isles’ combined bid almost certain to get it after original Euro 2028 rivals Turkey joined forces with Italy to host Euro 2032.
England are in a strong position to reach Euro 2024 as they hold a six-point advantage over Italy and Ukraine, who sit second and third respectively in qualifying Group C.
They were held to a 1-1 draw against Ukraine in their last qualifying match, but managed to beat Scotland 3-1 in a friendly last week.
