Italy’s Health Minister will impose a mandatory quarantine on UK arrivals due to the spread of the COVID-19 delta variant, a blow to English fans.
Roberto Speranza has confirmed that Italy will put in place a five-day quarantine and mandatory COVID-19 tests for all UK arrivals, from Monday.
This will prevent England fans from watching a round of 16 match at Wembley on June 29 AND a quarter-final in Rome on July 3, provided they can dominate Group D and win their last game of the last 16.
Wales are also due to play in Rome when they face irrepressible Azzurri on Sunday in their final Group A game, but that game comes ahead of the measures being implemented.
The UK government announced on Friday that there was a 79% increase in reported cases of the Delta coronavirus variant on a weekly basis.
Of the cases that have been sequenced, this now includes 91% of the Delta variant, according to Public Health England.
Italy’s new measures are designed to stop the spread of the Delta variant in the country.
France, Austria and Germany have also introduced restrictions to limit travel from the UK.
