At the launch of the Huawei product and solution in London, Peng Song, chairman of Huawei’s Carrier BG solutions marketing and sales department, gave a speech. During this conference, he announced the release of a state-of-the-art 5G network, which is intended to help operators achieve the commercial success of 5G.
Huawei believes that the commercial success of 5G operators must be based on the most advanced 5G network, simplified, intelligent, environmentally friendly and supporting ultra-high bandwidth and end-to-end AI. About the eco-friendly 5G network, the Huawei 5G Power solution showcases advanced technologies such as solar power, indoor site power system outside, high efficiency and AI to help customers to reduce their energy consumption and carbon emissions by more than 50%.
For a traditional site, the Huawei 5G Power solution innovatively offers a three-point transformation strategy to minimize the site’s carbon emissions:
AI maximizes solar energy input for base stations. Very efficient photovoltaic (PV) panels and solar modules are configured in the project to make full use of solar energy resources. With Huawei’s advanced iSolar technology, the solution adopts an AI planning algorithm to achieve collaboration of solar, power, battery, network and charging. When there is sufficient sunlight, solar energy is supplied to the devices and used to charge lithium batteries for solar energy use at night or on cloudy days. AC power is used only when there is insufficient battery storage. Currently, the reconstructed sites can provide solar energy for 15 hours a day.
Highly efficient external cooling increases energy efficiency. Traditionally, site devices are installed indoors and depend on air conditioners for 24 hour cooling. The high-density and efficient Huawei 5G Power solution facilitated the design of the module, produced One Shelter to One Cabinet and Indoor to Outdoor. The devices are placed in different outdoor temperature control compartments according to their temperature requirements. The different compartments are similar to the freezer and fridge of a fridge. Precise cooling allows flexible placement of devices in the required temperature environment, reducing power consumption for temperature control by 98%.
Improved energy efficiency minimizes energy loss. Rectifiers with 97% efficiency are used to replace traditional ones with 85% efficiency, greatly reducing energy loss during conversion. The 57V constant voltage lithium battery solution can enable 100% use of the battery capacity, helping sites smoothly move to 5G.
Huawei 5G Power not only helps operators succeed in 5G, but also makes the network ready for 5G greener. Today, 5G Power licenses base stations in Karpathos, Greece.
Compared to traditional sites, 5G Power Solution can save 51.2% of energy and a single site can save around 14,500 kWh of electricity per year, reducing carbon emissions by around 10 tonnes.
Going forward, Huawei will continue to explore and innovate, use technology to create more green and energy-efficient solutions, cooperate with more customers and partners to actively fight climate change.
