Just two days after Austin Butler won a Golden Globe for playing his father Elvis Presley, Lisa Marie Presley has tragically died aged 54 after suffering cardiac arrest.
Butler, 31, released a heartfelt statement after Presley’s death, though he’s now opening up more about his friendship with her.
The Oscar-nominated actor appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Monday, where he revealed they got “so close, so fast.”

Butler revealed that he first met Lisa Marie, “when we screened the film at Graceland, and I’ve never had an experience where I met someone and felt an immediate depth of connection. with him”.
“She was a person who really had nothing to prove and didn’t open up to everyone, and she just opened up to me,” he added.
“We got close so fast, so yeah, it’s just devastating. It’s weird at times like this because it’s so bittersweet,’ he added.

First meeting: Butler revealed he first met Lisa Marie, ‘when we screened the film at Graceland, and I’ve never had an experience where I met someone and felt a depth immediate relationship with him.

“So many great things are happening but it’s really…I’m just devastated for her family and for her not being here to celebrate with us,” he added.
Fallon added that he was happy that she got to celebrate with him at the Golden Globes, as Butler added, “to be able to be with her at the Golden Globes, I’ll never forget that for the rest of my life. “
Fallon asked if it was Lisa Marie or Priscilla Presley who showed off the actor Elvis’ slippers in his room after the Graceland screening.

Memory: Fallon added that he was happy she was able to celebrate with him at the Golden Globes, as Butler added, ‘to be able to be with her at the Golden Globes, I will never forget that for the rest of my life’

‘She took me up there and…times like that, up there, it’s not Elvis, it’s just dad. Moments like that, truly I will treasure that forever,’ Butler said.
Following Lisa-Marie’s death on January 12, Butler released a heartfelt statement about her passing.

Goosebumps: “I have goosebumps. It was after we screened the movie and her bedroom is a place most people never see, and she said, “I want to show you something,” Butler said.
“My heart is completely broken for Riley, Finley, Harper and Priscilla over the tragic and unexpected loss of Lisa Marie,” Butler said.
“I am forever grateful for the time I had the chance to be near his bright light and will forever cherish the moments of calm we shared. His warmth, love and genuineness will forever remain in the memoirs,” he concluded.
Butler will face Colin Farrell (The Banshees of Inisherin), Brendan Fraser (The Whale), Paul Mescal (Aftersun) and Bill Nighy (Living) on Sunday at the Oscars.
