Elton John responds to fans worried about his health – TODAY

He may have been spotted in a wheelchair, but Elton John wants fans to know he’s still on his feet.

The legendary entertainer posted a message on Instagram on Thursday dispelling rumors that he was in poor health during his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.

“I want to thank all of my fans for reaching out to ask questions about my health, after the tabloids ran a silly story about me ‘looking fragile’ in a wheelchair,” the singer began.

“The real story is that I’m in excellent health, I love my shows and I play and sing at my best. I give my 100% every night and I never want to disappoint, especially after everyone has waited so long to start seeing shows again. Your response to every show has been phenomenal and I enjoy every minute of it.

John, 75, said he was carried in a wheelchair after a recent performance on the current European leg of his tour to save his body from wear and tear.

“After another rousing 2.5 hour show, we arrived at Leipzig airport just before curfew, to find that part of the airport had closed,” he wrote. “It was an extremely long walk to get to the plane, so my team kindly lay down on a wheelchair so I could rest my hip after doing the show. That’s it.

“Last night there was another hit show in Bern and I can’t wait to see everyone at this weekend’s sold-out show in Milan. Thank you for all your kind words of support! I love you, Elton xx.

John underwent hip surgery last September after his fall, forcing him to postpone several dates on the European leg of his tour until 2023.

“At the end of my summer vacation, I fell awkwardly on a hard surface and since then I have had considerable pain and discomfort in my hip,” he said. written in a statement he shared on Twitter.

“Despite intensive physiotherapy and specialist care, the pain has steadily worsened and is causing increasing difficulty in moving around.

John, who also had to postpone some tour dates earlier this year after testing positive for COVID-19, said this would indeed be his last tour, noting he wanted to spend more time with his family. He and his husband David Furnish are the parents of Zachary, 11, and Elijah, 9.

“I’ll be 76 (when the tour is over),” he told TODAY last October. “I don’t know how long I have left on this earth after this. You know, I’ve had enough applause. I don’t want to keep traveling. I don’t want to be away from my family.
