Elton John has “lovingly” remembered the time he danced with Queen Elizabeth II at Windsor Castle.
The British king died aged 96 on September 8 and was honored with a state funeral at Westminster Abbey in London on Monday.
After the ceremony, Elton took to Instagram to share two photos of meeting the Queen and reminiscing about dancing with her to Bill Haley & His Comets’ Rock Around the Clock.
“Today I will join the rest of the world in remembering Her Majesty The Queen. My own memories of her are filled with joy and admiration. The Queen has honored me with a CBE, a Knighthood and Companion of Honor,” he shared. . “I had the good fortune to play at three of her jubilees. They were always joyful and humbling experiences. But it’s the times out of the public eye that I will remember her most fondly; dancing together to Rock Around the Clock at Windsor Castle or experience her wit, warmth and humor first-hand.She served with grace and dedication, and she will be sorely missed.
Following the Queen’s passing, Elton released a statement remembering her “inspiring presence”.
“Like the rest of the nation, I am deeply saddened to hear the news of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth,” the 75-year-old said. “She was an inspiring presence and led the country through some of our greatest and darkest times with grace, decency and genuine caring warmth. Queen Elizabeth has been a big part of my life from childhood until to this day, and I will miss her very much.”
