Elton John has postponed the European leg of his tour so he can have hip surgery.
The legendary singer announcement on social media that he had postponed the European leg of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour to 2023 so he could have hip surgery after having a bad fall several months ago that left him in severe pain.
“At the end of my summer vacation I fell awkwardly on a hard surface and since then have experienced considerable pain and discomfort in my hip,” the 74-year-old singer said in a statement. “Despite intensive physical therapy and specialized treatment, the pain continued to worsen and made it more difficult to move. I was advised to have the operation as soon as possible to get back in good shape and make sure that ‘there are complications over time. “
John said he still plans to perform on September 25 at the Global Citizen event because he “didn’t want to drop a charity.”
He added that he plans to start the U.S. portion of his tour in January 2022 in New Orleans.
