Sir Elton John’s farewell tour has officially made him more money than any other artist’s tour EVER.
The legendary British singer has grossed $817.9m (£660.06m) across eight legs (278 shows) of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Touraccording to Billboard Boxscore.
The shows, organized between September 2018 and January 2023, have become the highest-grossing musical tour.
Elton’s tour broke the record previously held by Ed Sheeran for his ÷ [Divide] tour, which grossed $776.2m (£631.3m) from 225 shows.
The record was also held by U2 and the Rolling Stones.
The third and final European leg of Elton’s tour is yet to come, with 51 shows scheduled between March and July 2023, meaning the amount he has earned from it is set to increase.
His upcoming shows include a main seat on the Pyramid Stage at the Glastonbury Festival on June 25.
The show will be Elton’s last in the UK and it is something he is looking forward to.
Announcing the title on Instagram, he wrote: “Couldn’t be more excited to headline the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury 2023 and celebrate the biggest festival in the world!!
“Each week I speak to new artists on my radio show and Glastonbury is often cited as a pivotal moment in launching their careers – the festival’s genuine and enthusiastic support of top emerging talent is something I have admired ever since. Thank you for inviting me Emily Eavis for my last show in the UK – it’s going to be emotional.
Elton also enthusiastically posted his latest tour on Instagram.
Sharing a photo of himself on stage during his last show in the US, the superstar wrote, “Last night I played my 2001st and final US tour show. I can’t thank every single person who has been a part of it, at Dodger Stadium and watching at home, enough for the most incredible night. I love you all and you will forever be in my heart.
In January 2023, according to Billboard Boxscore, Elton had the highest turnover in history at $1.863bn (£1.503bn), as well as the highest attendance (19.9m tickets sold). ).
