Tesla CEO Elon Musk is set to host the May 8 edition of “Saturday Night Live,” with musical guest Miley Cyrus.
Musk is a rare example of a business mogul featured as the host of the late night institution NBC. The news comes on the heels of Musk’s SpaceX travel company, which launched its second operational flight of his Dragon spacecraft to the International Space Station on Friday.
New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner hosted “SNL” in 1990. Brandon Tartikoff, then NBC’s programming director, ran the show in 1983 as the network began its hit streak under his direction.
Musk has become one of the most talked about business leaders of the past decade with his daring electric car moves with Tesla. He has also been a champion of the plan to eventually develop a market for private space expeditions with his company SpaceX.
Although Musk’s various business ventures have had their ups and downs and his handling of Tesla has drawn a lot of criticism, he remains one of the most visible CEOs and tech entrepreneurs around today. His fortune is estimated by Forbes at $ 177 billion.
The episode will mark Cyrus’ sixth visit to “SNL” as a musical guest. His most recent album, “Plastic Hearts”, was bowed last November.
Musk has been hailed as a visionary for exploring areas that intimidate others. But his outsized Tesla pay and personal demeanor have sometimes caught the attention of investors. Among other activities, Musk’s Boring Company is working on the construction of an automobile traffic loop under the Las Vegas Strip around the city’s convention center.
