Tesla billionaire and new Twitter owner Elon Musk has suggested the disgraced former chief executive of collapsed bitcoin and crypto exchange FTX has given Democrats far more money than previously thought .

Musk, who said he saw red flags when FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried offered money for his Twitter takeover, revealed via Twitter that he thinks Bankman-Fried could have given “more $1 billion” to Democrats before FTX collapsed – far more than the nearly $40 million that was reported.

Bankman-Fried and the operations of its bitcoin and crypto exchange FTX have come under intense media scrutiny after its $32 billion business empire collapsed into bankruptcy last month.
Prior to its implosion, Bankmam-Fried was a regular in Washington DC where he testified before Congress and met with lawmakers and regulators.
Bankman-Fried previously said he would donate $1 billion to political candidates before reneging on his promise. However, he has become one of the biggest Democratic donors in recent years, spending $36 million in the last midterm elections, mostly through the Protect Our Future Pac.
In an interview posted to YouTube this week, Bankman-Fried claimed to have donated to Democrats and Republicans.
“I gave both parties roughly the same amount,” Bankman-Fried told crypto YouTuber Tiffany Fong, adding that all of her “Republican donations were bleak.”
This week, the US Senate began the first in a series of hearings into the FTX collapse and announced its intention to hear from Bankman-Fried.
