After buying another spare Montecito property last month for $21 million, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi have successfully sold the home they purchased in the area last September for $12 million. Completely renovated and modernized when they bought it, the $13.5 million is a pretty neat profit, even though it’s $400,000 less than what they announced at the end of January.
The sprawling 4,780-square-foot home is perfectly suited to the coastal town, featuring contemporary interiors and a clean-lined Spanish-style exterior with white stucco walls, a terra-cotta tiled roof and large black-paned windows. Inside, these windows bring in plenty of light, especially into the living room which is surrounded by them on both sides, while the all-black kitchen nearby is decidedly moody. Touches of marble add to the home’s earthy chic character, and plenty of distinct outdoor spaces allow one to enjoy the location’s natural beauty and thoughtful landscaping that includes drought-tolerant grasses and olive trees. With just three bedrooms and four bathrooms, much of the home is dedicated to entertaining space which continues into the backyard, with an alfresco dining area, lounge area surrounding a fire pit and a barbecue station.
The master suite takes up another large portion of this square footage, displaying two walk-in closets and a decadent sky-lit bathroom with two vanities, soaking tub, large stand-up shower and outdoor shower as well. Earth tones create warmth in the space, which is otherwise all black and white.
