Ellen DeGeneres Sells Mid-Century Modern Home in Beverly Hills for $8.8 Million – Architectural Digest

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi have already had a busy 2022 both buying and selling homes in Montecito, Calif., but their first Los Angeles County contract for the year just dropped. According Dirtthe couple sold their Robert Skinner-designed five-bedroom, six-bathroom home in Beverly Hills for $8.8 million.

The dust has barely settled since DeGeneres and de Rossi bought the mid-century modern home just eight months ago for $8.3 million. Although the sale price does not represent a major profit after brokerage fees, taxes and maintenance, at least by their standards, it is unlikely that they spent much to renovate the property. At the time of their purchase in the fall of 2021, the accommodation had just undergone renovations by the previous owners, with a restoration led by architect John Bertram and interiors designed by Sarah Shetter. Custom Douglas fir cabinetry, floor-to-ceiling windows, and in some rooms, wood-paneled ceilings and walls, secure and honor the residence’s California Modernist heritage. Plenty of distinct outdoor spaces extend from the 4,614-square-foot interior, with quiet landscaped areas, paved patios, and, for entertaining, a covered dining area adjacent to the pool.

It’s safe to assume the off-market deal went smoothly, given that the buyer, Guy Oseary, lives right next door to the Beverly Hills property. Oseary has reportedly owned this space since 2005, when he paid $7.4 million, and bought another adjacent home for $4.3 million in 2015, so this deal now leaves him with three side-by-side homes sitting on 2.4 contiguous acres.
