Ellen DeGeneres Breaks Silence on Controversial Chat Show Ending: ‘It Was Hurtful’

Ellen DeGeneres has finally broken her silence on the controversial ending of her beloved daytime show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

The TV host began her stand-up comedy tour on April 24, calling it her last show before wrapping it up for good.

The show initially ended in May 2022 following a Buzzfeed report detailing allegations of racism, sexual misconduct and bullying followed by apology from TV host.

However, Ellen does not seem to have turned the page since the brutal end of The Ellen DeGeneres Show and decided to deliver a conclusion that was not tainted by the public’s negative perception of it, as she noted, “I just hated the way the series ended.”

“I love this show so much and I just hated that the last time people saw me was like this.”

Nonetheless, the 66-year-old turned to humor as she addressed the “hurtful” past, recalling how she was “kicked out of show business” for being “mean” and admitted becoming the “non persona grata.”

“The girl who said ‘be nice’ wasn’t nice. That was the headline,” she recounted headlines at the time, referring to the show’s closing remark.

“I became this one-dimensional character who was giving stuff and dancing moves.”

The Louisiana native also reflected on the “extremes” of this business where people “idolize” you or “they hate you, and those people are sort of louder.”

“Honestly, I make jokes about what happened to me, but it was really devastating,” she admitted, “it was hurtful.”
