At the 2022 Chongqing Auto Show, Avatr, an automobile brand jointly established by Changan Automobile, CATL and Huawei, signed a new comprehensive strategic cooperation agreement with Huawei on Saturday.
The two sides have reached an agreement in areas such as optimal resource investment and Huawei HI brand licensing, and will work together to build a series of high-end intelligent electric vehicles based on Huawei’s technology platform. According to Chinese business data platform Tianyancha, Changan Automobile and CATL are Avatr’s largest and second largest shareholders, respectively, with shareholding ratios of 39.02% and 28.99%.
Huawei has repeatedly said that it will not build cars, but will cooperate with automakers in two aspects. One is to cooperate with three automakers to create sub-brands with Huawei Inside (HI). In other words, Huawei provides comprehensive intelligent automotive solutions, namely Changan Automobile, BAIC and GAC. The other is the Huawei Smart Selection model, which is involved in the design and provides sales channels, and the representative model is the AITO built in cooperation with Seres.
The Avatr 11 comprehensively integrates smart driving, smart cockpit, smart network connection, smart electronics, smart vehicle cloud services and other solutions from Huawei. It is capable of a range of at least 700 km, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 4 seconds, has a high-voltage ultra-fast charge of 200 kW and a computing power of 400 Tops.
Another contract signed between Avatr and Huawei aims to further deepen the cooperation based on their previous three-way cooperation. Changan Automobile also said that Avatr’s first experience centers will be officially opened in the third quarter of this year, and it is working with Huawei to implement its store channel readiness.
Eric Xu, rotating chairman of Huawei, said that after Huawei decided to start its automobile business, he visited almost all the presidents and CEOs of Chinese automakers. During this period, he learned more about Huawei’s positioning in the automotive industry. “China does not lack Huawei-branded cars, but it lacks genuine core technology auto component suppliers,” he said.

In April this year, Avatr completed the first round of capital increase and share expansion. The company is working on round A financing and has an independent listing plan in the future to introduce more strategic partners with diverse backgrounds.
