EDEN CONFIDENTIAL: Sherlock star Amanda Abbington and a Twitter rumor after being banned from the platform three times – it’s elementary
Sherlock star Amanda Abbington speaks so openly about political issues that she has been banned from Twitter three times.
Now, Martin Freeman’s ex-partner from The Hobbit – the father of his two children – is facing his most furious reaction after claiming that people born with male anatomy cannot be called female.
His latest comments came in response to TV screenwriter Graham Linehan – co-creator of Father Ted – who asked the question online: ‘What is the closest friendship you have lost because of your beliefs? ”
Abbington, 46, replied: ‘I have been stalked on Twitter and have been accused on several occasions of being a TERF [trans-exclusionary radical feminist] for simply wanting to have a dialogue about it. Because it’s not black and white.
The actress’s comments echo those of Harry Potter author JK Rowling, who was vilified for making fun of an article for not referring to “ menstruating people ” as women.
She went on to claim that people who are born male cannot be characterized as the opposite sex, suggesting that it is ‘the patriarchy gone mad’.
The post, which she has since deleted, prompted a deluge of anger responses, including from a fan: ‘Is there something in the water in Britain? Seriously?
“Because it’s like every day I wake up to the news that another British celebrity has engaged in a transphobic rant and wants to have a ‘dialogue’ on whether people like my partner should see their rights removed or not. It’s exhausting.’

Abbington, whose 16-year-old relationship with Freeman ended four years ago, quickly apologized on social media, writing: ‘I want to deeply apologize for the comment I made on the trans people. It was misinformed and incredibly hurtful.
However, it may be too little too late, as her Twitter account has now been deleted – although it is not clear if this was done on her own will.

Harry Potter star David Thewlis, who played Professor Lupine, admits he failed to work his magic on singer Paul Weller.
“When I moved to London at 18 my sister said, ‘If you ever see Paul Weller, please get his autograph,’ he recalls.
“One day, while I was still in drama school, I saw him. I went and asked him for his autograph.
“He was a bit short with me. He gave it to me but he looked at me like, “Yeah, whatever, shit.” Now, being myself in this position, I can understand.
Thewlis, 57, adds: ‘Years later I ran into him on the street – when I was famous. And he recognized me. But I don’t think he remembered the first occasion.
