Eddie Vedder has stacked the deck on his forthcoming second soundtrack-less solo album, earthling. On Friday, January 14, the Pearl Jam singer revealed that the 13-track collection will feature collaborations with a number of other rock/pop icons, including Stevie Wonder, Elton John and Ringo Starr.
Vedder also released new single “Brother the Cloud,” the third song he’s previewed so far from the album, which is due out Feb. 11 on Seattle Surf/Republic Records. “If I could wish, wish he was gone / I’d bleed my knees and pray / If I could give it my all / To bring him back today / They’re just dreams / Sad as it sounds / They’re Never Going Away,” Vedder sings with urgency over the song’s guitar chorus, all the while dreaming of pulling a lost friend out of the abyss.
earthling, the sequel to Vedder’s 2011 Ukulele songs solo album, was produced by Grammy-winning producer Andrew Watt (Ozzy Osbourne, Ed Sheeran, Justin Bieber), and will be accompanied by the singer’s first solo tour in over a decade. Vedder previously released the songs “Long Way” and “The Haves” from the collection, which also features backing Watt, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith and former RHCP guitarist – and touring musician Pearl Jam – Josh Klinghofer.
The nine-date Earthling Tour – set to kick off Feb. 3 with a two-night adventure at New York’s Beacon Theater – will feature an all-star backing band anchored by Smith, guitarist Watt, bassist Jane’s Klinghoffer Addiction Chris Glen Hansard, longtime friend of Chaney and Ed and leader of Frames.
