The thriller is adapted from the 2013 book of the same name, which tells the haunting true story of Cullen, who is confirmed to have killed at least 29 people but is suspected of possibly killing over 400, and how the character of Chastain, a nurse named Amy Loughren, helped stop him.

The trailer opens with Amy waiting in a restaurant when the door opens and Charlie approaches Amy’s table asking, “What’s going on?”

‘Just, you know, work has been pretty awful without you. You and I were partners,” Amy asks, though Charlie says, “I don’t want to talk about work.

‘Is it because… what they say is true?’ a visibly nervous Amy asks Charlie, who opens his eyes and looks at Amy.

Later at work, her character notices a chalkboard and says, “Oh my God, there’s insulin in her system” as a Code Blue alert goes off and she rushes down the hall.

Officers visit Amy at home, revealing Cullen has been to nine different hospitals, as Amy adds, “No, the hospital would have done something.”

Amy meets a fellow nurse, asking her if she remembers working with Charlie and she says she does.

“There was a rumor about him. They found insulin in a dead man’s saline bag,” clearly alarming Amy.

She returns home one evening to her daughters and is petrified to find Charlie waiting for her, as one of the girls asks, “Why are you weird, Mommy?”

The trailer shows a number of dramatic shots with the other officer saying that Charlie is just going to get a new job at another hospital and everything will go on.

The trailer ends where it began – in the restaurant – with a new wrinkle, revealing that Amy is wired and the officers are listening, as the trailer draws to a close.

The Good Nurse, directed by Tobias Lindholm (A War) from a screenplay by Krysty Wilson-Cairns (Last Night in Soho), will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on Sunday before arriving in select theaters on October 19 and on Netflix October 26.
