Ed Sheeran Almost Wrote the James Bond Theme Instead of Billie Eilish Collider

pop feeling Ed Sheeran opened up about his disappointment after starting to write the theme for the James Bond epic no time to die before the reins passed to the Billie Eilish. The ‘Photograph’ hitmaker says he felt ‘hurt’ after he started writing the title track for Daniel Craig007’s last foray before it all comes crashing down.

Bond fans will remember how the film was thrown into disarray when the Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle left the project due to creative differences. Cary Joji Fukunaga was then brought on board and he was most smooth sailing from there – except for a global pandemic causing countless delays.

Manager of Sheeran Camp Stuart previously told how the singer met the Bond producer Barbara Broccoli in 2017 to discuss him potentially writing the track. Now, the Grammy-winning singer has revealed that the necessary meetings for the song have been completed, so he has decided to move forward with the process. “I was this close to making [the Bond theme]and they changed the director, then they just changed the scripts and that was it…we had done all the meetings, I started writing it,” Sheeran said on This podcast by Peter Crouch. “I’m not going to pretend it didn’t hurt not to.” Despite the devastating blow, Sheeran is “of course” very open to the opportunity going forward.

Unsurprisingly, Eilish’s trademark raspy tone lifted her to newfound success with the song. Not only did it mark her as the youngest artist ever to record a Bond theme song, but it also earned her and her brother Finneas an Oscar for Best Original Song. If the honor couldn’t be greater, she beat a longtime musical icon Beyonce and seasoned composer Lin-Manuel Miranda for the hug. The track caused a stir around the world, but notably took the top spot in the biggest opening week ever for a Bond theme on the UK charts. Eilish joins a long line of singers who have dabbled in recording the illusionary Bond theme in the past, including Tom Jones, Paul McCartney, Adele, Lulu, Duran Duran and Sam Smith.

With no time to die Craig’s swansong told the franchise, as the conversation around who will take on the role next has erupted around the world. bond producer Michael G Wilson offered a hint as to what fans can expect – the seasoned agent won’t be getting any younger. “We’ve tried to look at young people in the past,” Wilson said. Deadline. “But trying to visualize it doesn’t work. Remember, Bond is already a veteran. He’s got experience.” Time will tell who gets Bond – and the Bond theme – next.
