When Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson makes a statement, even if it’s not done WWE style, people listen.
Johnson did his part to launch Troy Aikman’s Eight Light Beer in an Instagram reel on Monday. As of Monday afternoon, Johnson’s one-minute appeal to his 337 million followers had gained over half a million likes – not a bad marketing move at the cost of a six-pack.
In the video, Johnson tears open the six-pack with his left hand, pulls out a can, opens the pop-top tab, and takes a sip.
“Oh that’s good, that’s good beer,” Johnson said. “And you know if the beer passes the hot beer taste test, you know it will taste good when it’s cold.”
In January, Aikman announced that he had co-founded an Austin-based company that would release his 90-calorie beer. Eight is made with organic grains and is a fully malted beer, which means it contains no corn or rice.
Aikman, who follows a tight fitness regimen, said he hopes the beer will intrigue health-conscious, “early risers”. People who get up in the morning with a purpose and want to be better.
It’s no coincidence that Johnson, who is also health conscious, came across Aikman’s beer. Johnson doesn’t need a free beer considering he just earned a $22.5 million salary for black adambut he is a friend of Aikman.
“[Johnson] did this in her spare time, and we didn’t expect this,” said Sarina Appel, whose marketing company promotes Eight. “Everything came as a surprise.”
In the Instagram post, Aikman replied, “Well done my friend!”
