Duke Basketball Unveils One Player Plan for Next Season – Sports Illustrated

Via a teaser Saturday for Monday morning’s first offseason episode of The Brotherhood Podcast, the Duke basketball program revealed — rather quietly but clear as day — that Caleb Foster will be a sophomore in the Washington backcourt. Blue Devils 2024-25 alongside juniors at Be floor general Tyrese Proctor.

Duke Basketball Roundup podcast host Jason Evans first discovered and reported the obvious clue. The Blue Devils social media team left it as the first sentence of the following show description for the time of reflection and anticipation between Foster and Proctor (alongside the podcast host The Brotherhood on last season’s Duke sophomore show, big man). Ryan Young):

“Our first 2024 offseason episode is here, featuring next year’s backcourt: Caleb Foster and Tyrese Proctor…”

News of Proctor’s planned return, first reported by National College Hoops insider Adam Zagoria, was announced Thursday evening.

Proctor and Foster earned a combined 40 starting nods for the 2023-24 Blue Devils, often replacing one another in three-guard lineups due to injuries.

Meanwhile, another member of last season’s group of four starting talents, freshman Jared McCain, will not return, having already declared for the NBA draft as a projected first-round pick.

As for the other, senior and sophomore captain Jeremy Roach remains the only question mark, aside from the potential for additional outgoing and incoming transfers. He has the option to play a fifth year because the NCAA does not count the 2020-21 season, his rookie campaign, against anyone’s eligibility.

But on that note, one might see the aforementioned description of The Brotherhood Podcast, scheduled to premiere at 6 a.m. ET Monday, as a sign that Roach has no plans to stick around for a year of graduate school and repeating it with Caleb Foster and Tyrese Proctor.

Outgoing transfers announced by Duke Basketball so far this offseason are Mark Mitchell, Jaylen Blakes and Christian Reeves. Ryan Young has expired his eligibility. Kyle Filipowski joins Jared McCain as the two Blue Devils who have announced their early departures to the next level.

Not counting Jeremy Roach’s decision, sophomore guard Jaden Schutt (redshirt in 2022-23) and freshmen forwards Sean Stewart and TJ Power are now the only three players on Jon Scheyer’s second team as as head coach to have not confirmed their return, at least not publicly. (no obligation to do so, although fans of that transfer portal era are naturally always on the lookout for such things).

Whoever returns will be teammates with the nation’s No. 1 recruiting class, consisting of four-star wing Darren Harris and a handful of five-star prospects like forwards Cooper Flagg, Isaiah Evans and Kon Knueppel, as well as centers Khaman Maluach and Patrick Ngongba. II.
