A few days after a full year since his first album, Duckwrth blurts out an amazing body of follow-up work for Super good with the EP, SG8 *. On September 3rd, the LA artist released his 8-track project full of grooves and music to rock for the rest of our summers.
From the comfort of his home via the Zoom call, Duckwrth seemed as busy as he could get after his EP was released and was starting to settle in in the final moments before his main tour. Once we talked about his new EP, it got more zoned.
The last time he released his own music, people were mostly isolated at home due to the growing number of COVID-19 cases. About a year later, the world is different, people are out and Duckwrth decided to release another project from the start.
“I guess I wanted to have something more relevant at the time and especially to relate the feelings that everyone had at the time.” This EP looked like that, the music is very current. Duckwrth teamed up with other artists and producers and made the music within a month. SG8 * is a salute to the post-pandemic joy and to overcoming the obvious pains associated with the period.
One of the best plays of the project is the second issue, “No Chill”. With production by WaveIQ (Jaden Smith, Goldlink) and the group Hello yello, the team created the mood for “No Chill” and “Link Up Time”.
“We were just trying to find that one. Before, we were trying to do something closer to ‘Link Up Time’, and it wasn’t working. We were kind of snooping. This one, I was. don’t know what it is, but this one kind of spoke to me. ”
A week before the EP’s release, he released a music video for “4K” with features Phabo. Phabo participated in a session that Duckwrth was in, spontaneously contributed and recorded the disc. “We were just having fun. There was a day where he (Phabo) was in the other room, I was working with Wave, and it’s just one of those things because the rooms are so close to each other. We all just collaborated. So he did what he did, and he thought ‘okay, I’m gone’, and got up from there.
A majority of the EP forms a motivation and an “exit” energy. From the hopping “No Chill” to the sensual “4K”, through the closer slow mosey EP, “Make U Go”, SG8 * is a coherent amalgamation of many summer sounds.
Duckwrth is on tour this month immediately following the release of SG8 *. Duckwrth’s US tour, which kicked off in September, already has sold-out dates in Los Angeles, New York, Atlanta, Boston, Oakland and Chicago. Duckwrth says it’s a shame that Super good was never played because it’s such a good album for those parameters. “This will be the first time that we perform it, and we also perform probably six songs from SG8 *. “
Shortly after, in March, he will perform alongside Billie Eilish on her Around the world happier than ever. He will join the Grammy-winning phenomenon on tour in the Midwest and West Coast of the United States.
“It’s going to be a lot. We had a festival a few days ago, and it’s very interesting. I had become familiar with the performance again, ”said Duckwrth. “It’s going to be really sick. We did three shows I think in 2019, and it was really trippy. I think the most important thing about stadiums or arenas is that you have to increase your energy. Like you really have to go out banging, especially if you’re not the headliner.
Duckwrth joins Billie Eilish’s tour for dates throughout March and the first week of April. “I am very excited and super blessed. I’ve known her since 2017 or 18 – met her at SXSW. In addition, it is like kinetic energy. She is actually like a genuine human being with the purest heart, ”he said.
Overall, the fourth quarter of 2021 has really turned out to be a big one for Duckwrth. You can see him on both tours with tickets on sale now and check out his new music on all streaming platforms.
