Dublin, Calif., high school basketball coach Tom Costello thinks his 6-foot-6 star guard Courtney Anderson Jr. could be a little more selfish.
“Everything he scores is effective, it’s all in the flow,” Costello said. “He doesn’t force things.”
So it makes sense that Anderson, the son of the former NFL tight end of the same name, was low-key and not flashy when deciding his college choice.
On Twitter Friday, Anderson announced he was “100%” committed to Colorado. No other words were needed. No bright lights or video editing required. Anderson just does his job, plays hard and likes to win.
The 3-star recruit, ranked the 37th rookie in California by 247Sports, chose the Buffaloes over six other schools offered to him: Arizona State, Cal, Nevada, Cal Poly, San Jose State and USF.
Anderson earned first-team All-Metro honors last season per The San Francisco Chronicle after averaging 20.1 points per game for the No. 17 Bay Area team.
His selfless play on the court reflects his humble nature, Costello said. Anderson has a 3.7 grade point average.
“He’s calm, likeable, his teachers and teammates love him,” Costello said. “He’s kind of a coach’s dream.”
