Drivers will use different lines on Zandvoort Banking – Verstappen

Max Verstappen believes that Formula 1 drivers will have to use different lines via Zandvoort bank during this year’s Dutch Grand Prix – especially when their tires start to come off.

The Red Bull driver became the first man to ride the redesigned circuit in a grand car, and drove a 2012 RB8 around the circuit earlier this week.

Thinking about his first experience of the two banked corners, Verstappen was clear that it would be a big challenge for everyone.

“I always thought it was a great circuit to drive, but the banking industry definitely adds a new dimension to it,” said Verstappen.

“I think you can drive different lines in these banked corners, so that’s a good thing. It also affects the tires.

“On new tires, you can take a shorter line. But on older tires, you need to make sure you have a good exit, so you may have to stay a little higher on this last corner.”

While Arie Luyendyk’s last steep corner will be easily flat for the current generation of cars, Verstappen doesn’t think things will be easy to cross.

“It’s a really interesting corner,” he helps. “Everyone thinks” oh, it’s completely flat anyway, so it’s pretty easy, “but you also have to take into account the DRS and all the forces released by the bank. So, overall , I think it’s a pretty difficult corner. “

Verstappen is well aware that he will be the center of attention at the May event, but says he is doing everything he can to try to minimize the additional pressure on him.

“I try not to over-see it as a home run,” he said. “It’s mainly because you shouldn’t be putting extra pressure on yourself. I’m just trying to be as relaxed as possible.”
