Drew Barrymore apologizes for ‘shed light’ on Johnny Depp-Amber Heard lawsuit, ‘offended’ fans – Variety

Drew Barrymore has issued an apology on social media for “shed light” on Johnny Depp’s $50 million defamation lawsuit against Amber Heard. The ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ actor is suing Heard after he alluded to their allegedly abusive relationship in an op-ed written for The Washington Post. Barrymore called the trial “seven layers of madness” on his daytime talk show.

“It’s like one layer of madness, it’s a seven layer dive of madness. I know these are the real lives of two people and I know what it’s like to have your life made public,” he said. Barrymore said “I understand all the feelings, but they’re actually offering this information that no one should have known. It’s crazy!”

The trial has been broadcast live since the beginning of April 11. Barrymore’s comments drew backlash from her viewers, to which the host responded in a video message: “It has come to my attention that I have offended people by making light of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard and for that I just want to deeply apologize and thank everyone who spoke up because this can be a teachable time for me and how I move forward and how I conduct myself.

“All I want is to be a good person,” Barrymore added. “I can be a more thoughtful and better person moving forward because all I want to do is be a good person and I really appreciate the depth of that and I’m going to grow and change… And I thank all those who help me grow along the way and teach me. Thanks.”

Barrymore is far from the only celebrity to speak out during the trial. Howard Stern went viral last month for criticizing Johnny Depp’s “overreaction” when the actor took the stand to testify against Heard.

“His difficulty speaking the English language is fantastic,” Stern added. “And the accent. First of all, isn’t he originally from the southern Midwest? Johnny Depp was born in Kentucky. Does that sound like a guy from Kentucky? »
