Drake hints at Rihanna’s return in a track from Popcaan’s new album.
Popcaan published his new project, FIXTAPE, and he has two tracks with Drake. Finally, dancehall artist OVO Sound and frontman OVO have strong collaborations together. Drake and Popcaan have been friends for years and the deejay has been signed to the Canadian rapper’s label since 2018, so it’s only natural that fans would expect the two artists to get together on a track occasionally.
For some reason this has never manifested before, but now here we are with two brand new songs after years of languishing. The 32-track project offers two tracks with Drake: “All I Need” and “Twist & Turn” with PND. The old track is a soft slow jam led by Drake that sounds like one of the songs the rapper teased on his Instagram Story a few months ago. The 2 minute 58 second track finds Drizzy and Poppy singing about a woman who remains an enigma despite being so caught up in her toxic love.
“Which side are you on again?” / What room does he have you in? / At what time do you leave? / How long are we going to be friends? / What role do I play again? I can’t even make new friends / I’m here without moving again / I need to know how this ends, ”Drake raps seductively. “That’s all I need / That’s all I need (yeah),” Popcaan sings on the track.
Popcaan finally concludes a good collaboration with Drake
The second track with Drake and Party Next Door is more of a dancehall jam similar to Drake’s “One Dance”, but it’s packed with Jamaican dialect. The song called “Twist & Turn” is about a girl who just wants to “dance and tease” her admirers. Drake seems to spill his whole heart on the track, seemingly drawing from personal experience as usual.
“You’ve been missing since 2016 / Squid tells me it’s my decision / You know it’s my decision / When she talks I listen / She swears you’re my Mrs. / I say we think differently / III I see why your heart is frozen / come on baby come on come try me / who you gonna love if you run me / too many twists and turns (yeah) / love the way you twist and twist, twist and twist (yeah) Drake raps. Much of his lyrics allude to a mysterious woman who fits the criteria of a Robyn Fenty better known as Rihanna who as we all know hasn’t delivered an album since ANTI in 2016.
Party Next Door brings a bit of a grater to the track with the same vibe and awesome accent it delivered on “Not Nice” in 2016. When Poppy hits the track in the third verse of the 4min 20 track seconds, he too looks like he’s from a real place reminiscent of a relationship with a woman from his past.
“You used to say you didn’t know love / And you used to say ‘you need to grow up’ / I know you know seh yuh waan bruck it off doh / And I know that you know yuh waan whine fast then yuh whine slowly / I got there the first night when you get weird when you get mean / Before that we have a bitter cold Christmas and Forty one night Jordan / Gyal yuh body made it so clean you u have worn Versace, ”Popcaan sings on the runway. “She just wanna dance and tease / She just wanna dance and tease” PND continues with the hook.
