GT and Super follow two separate stories from the Dragon Ball franchise with notable differences in the character of Android 17.
There are many animated series that have left undeniable marks on the medium, but Dragon ball continues to be one of the most recognizable properties in the world. Dragon ball has evolved in exciting ways since his beginnings and he has found how to stay relevant as well as influence many changes in the shonen world.
Dragon ball z is followed by the two Dragon ball gt and the most recent Dragon Ball Super. These two anime bring back Dragon ball z’s Android 17 is underused, which is a major surprise either way, but there are significant differences between these two takes on the character.
ten He is the product of two scientists in Dragon Ball GT
One of the main differences between the way Dragon ball gt and Great approach the character is that Dragon ball gt features a replicant, Hell Fighter 17, which combines with Android 17. Hell Fighter 17 is made by Dr. Myuu, a deranged scientist who meets Dr. Gero while they are both in Hell. These scientists are working together to put in place this master plan which results in a rift between Earth and hell where many dead fighters are unleashed. However, this also makes GT take the product of two evil brains.
9 He has a wife and a family in Dragon Ball Super
Dragon ball super is extremely satisfying with the way he brings back some neglected Dragon ball z characters like Future Trunks and Android 17. The return of Android 17 is a major surprise, but it’s an even bigger shock in Dragon ball super since meeting he now has a wife and children. Android 17 seems to have taken a page out of the book of Android 18 with a more domestic life. Android 17 explains that one of her children is biological, while the other two are adopted. It’s a pleasant and healthy existence for the character.
8 It merges and becomes Super Android 17 in Dragon Ball GT
Android 17 inadvertently becomes one of the Dragon ball gt the most dangerous antagonists and a serious challenge for Goku. Android 17 became a recluse, but the man-made Hell Fighter 17 was sent from hell to merge with him to form a new evil creation.
The result, Super Android 17, is arguably the most dangerous Android Goku has ever faced and a strong reminder of the initial threat from Androids. This Fusion Solidifies 17 as Villain, as Great takes the opposite approach with the character.
seven He’s a ranger in Dragon Ball Super
Dragon ball gt and Great both show that Android 17 has gone off the grid to some extent and has chosen not to ruffle the feathers after the events of Dragon ball z’s Cell Saga. The main difference here is that Dragon ball super details how 17 was productive this time around and has become an important force at a wildlife station where he maintains nature as a ranger. 17 manages to keep the world safe here and he then trusts Goten and Trunks to keep the grounds safe, which also keeps their skills sharp.
6 He kills important characters in Dragon Ball GT
Dragon ball super positions Android 17 as a useful ally and a character who is even willing to sacrifice himself to protect others. This altruistic perspective is the complete reverse of Android 17’s ideology in Dragon Ball GT. Super Android 17 quickly shows that he doesn’t mind when he attacks Goku’s family and closest friends, which includes the murder of Krillin. It’s a tragic moment and it shows that even after the defeat of Super Android 17, the pain it caused is still present.
5 He confirmed his sins in Dragon Ball Super
The most basic difference between Android 17 in Dragon ball super and Dragon ball gt is that it is bad in one and not in the other, but it is also much deeper than this oversimplification.
Dragon ball super’s Android 17 is not only a hero, but he goes out of his way to mend the relationships he has hurt in the past and correctly prove to Universe 7 that he can be trusted. It’s deeply touching to see 17 work alongside characters like Piccolo and Goku and demonstrate how he is fully redeemed and on a new path.
4 He activates Goku’s Dragon Fist in Dragon Ball GT
the Dragon ball The series is full of powerful attacks, but some of them are only used once and are quickly forgotten simply due to the excess of superpowers that may be present. Wrath of the Dragon from Dragon Ball Z The film introduces a new ability for Goku, the Dragon Fist, which subsequently disappears completely. Dragon Fist makes a surprise comeback in Dragon ball gt and it’s actually the knockout that Goku uses against Super Android 17. It’s possible he never had to resort to such a maneuver before this encounter. He remains absent in Dragon Ball Super.
3 It is faithful to Android 18 in Dragon Ball Super
Dragon ball z presents Androids 17 and 18 as a team and it’s a good layer for these villains that there is a level of affection between them. Dragon ball super picks up on that relationship and throughout the Tournament of Power Android 17 often fights in tandem with 18 and they prove again why they work so well together. It could have been interesting to use Android 18 to upgrade to Super Android 17 in Dragon Ball GT, but instead, he simply inflicts pain on her, including the death of her husband.
2 It develops different abilities in each series
Android 17 is incredibly powerful in both Dragon ball super and Dragon Ball GT, but oddly enough, he’s given a unique set of abilities in each series that reflect his contrasting personalities. Dragon ball gt Super Android 17 gains energy absorption capacity through its palms. He also has attacks like Hell Breaker, Shocking Death Ball, and Electro Eclipse Bomb, all of which are missing in Dragon Ball Super. Another major change here is that Super Android 17 can remove its arm and use it as a machine gun, which is a maneuver named Hell’s Storm.
1 He saves universe 7 in Dragon Ball Super
A fundamental change between these two interpretations of Android 17 is that if Dragon ball gt presents the character’s attempts to ruin Earth and instigate panic, Dragon ball super instead, he becomes the literal savior of the universe. Android 17 is the ultimate winner of the Tournament of Power, which lasts even longer than Goku and Frieza. He has the ability to do whatever he wants with his Super Dragon Ball wish, but chooses to revive all of the lost universes, which is the ultimate reflection of his heroism and how far he has come.
