Donald Trump is now a 9th Dan Black Belt in Taekwondo.
This ranks him above 8th Dan Chuck Norris – and many other taekwondo masters – which may explain why the combat sports community has risen up. Blame World Taekwondo Headquarters (Kukkiwon) Chairman Lee Dong-sup, who insists that there is no political motive behind the honorary certificate.
“It is an honor for me to receive the honorary certificate from Dan and I think taekwondo is a magnificent martial art for self-defense,” said the former US president after donning his Dobok. “I wish to see the demonstration of the Kukkiwon taekwondo team.”
Trump, who was dismissed from his post last November, does not practice any martial arts but has long supported the UFC and promotion chairman Dana White. In fact, the Las Vegas wrestling boss was left bemused by the controversial real estate mogul at two Republican national conventions.
It should be noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin was also awarded a 9th Dan Taekwondo black belt in 2013.
